5 places to eat in Rotterdam

Contents

Where to eat in Rotterdam? After “what to do in Rotterdam?” this question has probably crossed your mind, if not still occupying it; well, I was in your shoes, I had to find answers, as I searched and went out. I found several answers, and among them 5 were kept; 5 addresses ended up in my list of favorite places to eat in Rotterdam.

Without further ado, I’ll share it with you!

Lilith

Address: Nieuwe Binnenweg 125 H, 3014 GJ Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Lilith, as the name of Adam’s first wife. I’ve had brunch there several times during different stays and so far I haven’t been disappointed, so I consider Lilith a great place to have breakfast or brunch.

You can taste pancakes, eggs, smoothiesbowls or specialities of the place, all accompanied by hot or cold drinks; special mention for the american pancakes and for the mango bowl. You can find the complete map here: the map. The dishes are made to order, so expect a bit of a wait, but you’ll see, it’s justified. Besides the food, the team is really warm. Enjoy !

If you’re wondering what to do in Rotterdam after this technical break, you should know that not far from Lilith is the Museum Park; I talk about it in an article dedicated to things to do in Rotterdam.

Foodhallen

Address: Wilhelminakade 58, 3072 AR Rotterdam, The Netherlands

With this spot you will no longer ask the question “where to eat in Rotterdam?” but rather “what to eat?”. After my visit to the one in Amsterdam, I had to go to this one. The concept behind Foodhallen ? Gathering and spreading flavors, specialties, in short, cuisines coming from various horizons; it is therefore, in the case of the Foodhallen of Rotterdam, a dozen stands (Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, etc.) that are accessible in one place. Special mention for the Japanese curry.

If you go in the evening, don’t wait too long because the stands close some time before the place closes. Please also note that it is not necessary, nor possible, to make a reservation. On the other hand, if you plan to go to the foodhallen in Amsterdam you should know that it is usually very crowded in the evening which makes the traffic inside difficult and the waiting quite long.

Looking for what to do first? Foodhallen is located in front of the museum of photography; I talk about it in a previous article. Looking for what to do next? Why not take a digestive walk across the Erasmus Bridge?

The Goat

Address: Schiedamse Vest 14, 3011 BA Rotterdam, The Netherlands

I stumbled upon this restaurant by chance after visiting one of the museums in the museum park; it was a pleasant surprise!

I warn you, this address is not the healthiest of the list, and for good reason it is about junk food. The goat is a restaurant where you can enjoy fried chicken and waffles, tenders or hamburgers all accompanied by different kinds of fries, drinks and fresh cocktails; you can find the complete menu here: the menu. No fear for vegetarians because the menus (even if they are not indicated on the online menu) can be taken in vegetarian version.

Special mention for the cajun fries, the classic chicken & waffle and the pina colada; I found the dishes tasty and the portions copious (yes this word will come up often). Here again, the staff is very pleasant.

Markthal

Address: Verlengde Nieuwstraat, 3011 GM Rotterdam, The Netherlands

During my travels I discovered a passion for covered markets; in a previous article I mentioned the boqueria (Barcelona), here it is about the Markthal. The Markthal is a covered market in which you will find restaurants, stores and stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, cheese, and much more.

On your way to the Markthal you will also be able to see the work “Horn of Plenty” by artist Arno Coenen, assisted by designers Iris Roskam and Marinus de Ruiter, 3D modelers Michiel van Iperen and Frank aan de Stegge, software specialist (Nuke) Dustin Kershaw and photographer Frank Hanswijk (source). The cornucopia is a direct reference to the place (with the representation of fruits, vegetables, fish, etc.) and to Greek mythology. The work was printed on 4,000 panels covering an area of 11,000 m².

Wagamama

Address: Witte de Withstraat 83-85, 3012 BN Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Last but not least, we suggest a restaurant where to eat in Rotterdam. Wagamama is a chain of Japanese restaurants. I already mentioned this chain in one of my articles about Amsterdam because there is one in the central station.
My preferred choice? The chicken katsu curry; the experiment having been conclusive, I found it interesting to add it as a last spot.

On the other hand, it does not appear (yet?) in this list because I have not, for the moment, found the time to test it, however there is a restaurant which was recommended to me by the receptionist of the hotel in which I stayed recently; it is an Italian restaurant named Angelo Betti. She described it to me as “The restaurant where to eat the best pizzas in Rotterdam”, besides that the desserts like the tiramisu or the ice creams are also very popular; strategic alliance or truth? I will tell you more soon!

One or more of these addresses tempt you? I hope this list of places to eat in Rotterdam has inspired you; don’t hesitate to send me your feedback and/or good addresses. On my side I will make sure to share with you new spots soon.

Have a good tasting!
